Expert on renewable energy and business development
Maurice Pigaht joins MARGE in 2009 and becomes its Managing director in November 2018. He is a consultant on renewable energy, business development and development aid. He has over 15 years professional experience in technical, socio-economic and project management issues relating to solar PV, hydropower and biomass projects. He has planned, implemented and evaluated projects for GIZ, the World Bank, BTC the, Government of Rwanda and other clients. Recent country experience includes Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Namibia, Mozambique, Afghanistan, Tanzania, Madagascar and South Africa.

Africa Regional Director
Samuel Martin has almost 15 years of professional experience in energy access, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Specialist in decentralised rural electrification and biomass energy, particularly in developing innovative policies for renewable energy, he has worked on 3 continents (Africa, Asia and South America) for NGOs, research centers, consulting firms and the United Nations. In this context, he studied, developped, managed, evaluated and coordinated the implementation of projects aiming at improving energy access for the poor through the efficient use of renewable energy.

Specialist in rural electrification through mini-grids
Director of Operations
Andrea started his career as consultant in 2013. In 2015 he joined MARGE and as of 2016 he is part of the permanent team. He studied in Europe, the U.S.A. and Asia, and he has working experience in several sub-Saharan African countries. He holds a technical background and a MBA focussed on renewable energies. His main focus is the development and management of programs of rural electrification through mini-grids.

Sustainable development, climate and energy expert
Director of Research
Marina works as a consultant since 2005. Her experience ranges from high-level political consultancy services in the field of sustainable development strategy to, more recently, project-based assignments in climate and energy related fields. Her skills include project evaluation and development as well as economic analysis.

RE expert specialized in finance and private sector development
Based in Rwanda, Rachel Friedman is a renewable energy expert, specialized in finance and private sector development. Rachel has more than a decade of experience working with the private sector, development partners and government institutions. Before joining MARGE, at the beginning of 2019, she worked as a Transaction Advisor for Rwanda and Burundi under USAID’s Power Africa initiative. Rachel also worked for DFID’s ELAN RDC to bring renewable energy goods to market in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Previously, she was the Chief Financial Officer of a solar energy company based in Rwanda for four years.
Robert Jan VAN DER PLAS
Rural and Renewable Energy Specialist
Robert joined MARGE in 2001 after 16 years at the World Bank. He has been MARGE Managing director from 2013 to 2018. He has designed, supervised, analyzed, and managed many energy & environmental projects and programs, notably related to developing markets and the rational use of woodfuels and renewable energy sources, awareness campaigns and the management of forest areas, and productive use of natural resources.

Claire joined MARGE in 2013 as administrative and financial assistant. She assists MARGE team in managing MARGE activities: tenders prospection and preparation, daily administration, finance, accounting, logistics, intern and extern communication, proof reading of reports, study research, etc. She has more than 10 years experience in company administration and management.
