Project development Expert
Maurice Pigaht joined MARGE in 2009 and is its Managing Director since 2018. His work as a consultant on renewable energy in developing economies focuses on project development, energy sector policy, project finance advisory, energy business development and public-private partnership schemes. He has over 17 years professional experience in technical, project management and policy issues relating to solar PV, hydropower and biomass projects. He has planned, evaluated and implemented projects for GIZ, KfW, the EU, the World Bank, BTC, national governments and private sector clients.

Policy development expert
Africa Regional Director
A partner of Marge since 2017, Samuel Martin has more than 16 years of professional experience in promoting renewable energy, energy access and energy efficiency. As a specialist in rural electrification and wood energy, particularly in policy development, he has worked on 3 continents (Africa, Asia and South America) for consulting firms, NGOs, research centers and the United Nations. In this context, he prepared and managed the implementation of projects aiming at improving energy access for the poor. In recent years he has also been actively involved in energy efficiency projects in the industrial sector, especially in the tea sector. Samuel has lived in developing countries in Asia and Africa since 2003 and is currently based in Malawi.

Director of Research
Marina has worked with MARGE since 2009 and has been a partner since 2013. She is socio-economist, specialised in energy access and sustainable development issues. Her experience ranges from project evaluation and development to economic and socioeconomic analysis. She has worked in Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, RDC, Rwanda), Latin America (El Salvador, Haïti, Costa Rica) and Asia (Cambodia). She has recently spent several years developing and implementing the Global Survey Program for the World Bank to assess the energy access under the Multi-Tier Framework (MTF) approach.

Mini-grid and business development expert
Director of Operations
Andrea is an engineer and MBA-holder specialised in the field of rural electrification, particularly through solar and hydro mini-grids. He is partner of MARGE since 2016. His skills include the identification, development and management of rural electrification projects in collaboration with the public and private sector, as well as providing technical assistance to policies in the field of energy access.

Private sector development expert
Based in Rwanda, Rachel Friedman is a renewable energy expert, specialized in private sector development and finance. Rachel has more than a decade of experience working with the private sector, development partners and government institutions ; she has worked both in the on- and off-grid energy sectors. Before joining MARGE, at the beginning of 2019, she worked as a Transaction Advisor for Rwanda and Burundi under USAID’s Power Africa initiative. Prior to that, she worked for DFID’s ELAN RDC to bring renewable energy goods to market in the DRC and was the Chief Financial Officer of a solar energy company based in Rwanda for four years.

Robert Jan VAN DER PLAS
Robert van der Plas was the Managing Director of MARGE from 2013 to 2018 and remains a senior partner and shareholder. Since joining MARGE in 2001 after 16 years at the World Bank, he has designed, supervised, evaluated, and managed numerous energy efficiency or energy access projects and programs throughout Africa and Asia. His experience of over 30 years includes promoting public private partnerships, developing markets, and the sustainable use and supply of renewable energy including wood fuels. He has worked in many developing countries in Africa & Oceania, Asia & Pacific, Latin and Central America.
Graduate of Twente University in the Netherlands (Applied Physics, Development Studies).
Administrative and financial assistant
Claire joined MARGE in 2013 as an administrative and financial assistant. She assists the team in managing MARGE activities: contracting, tender prospection and preparation, daily administration, finance, accounting, logistics, internal and external communication, and background studies, etc. She has more than 16 years of experience in company administration and management.
