MARGE has recently carried a study on behalf of several NGOs (CARE, Mercy Corps and Oxfam) to help them better understand the barriers that are still preventing the scaling up of their respective pilot projects/initiatives related to SDG7 (United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy). A total of 7 projects were studied in various areas such as clean cooking, access to sustainable and renewable energy, solar-based water pumping and desalination solutions, mainly in Africa and including refugee camps. Recommendations were provided to help these NGOs overcome the barriers identified: improving market conditions, improving policy and enabling environment, paying more attention to project planning, adapting financing modalities and fostering collaboration with national governments who have a key role to play in creating the conditions for such projects to succeed.
