Enabel's “ClimWal-RE” project in Senegal aims to promote socio-economic development in rural areas through the productive use of energy, particularly by women's and youth groups. To this end, a dozen solar kiosks will be deployed in collaboration with the private sector as part of an innovative public-private partnership. The kiosks will comprise a building of around 50 m2, a solar system with storage capacity of around 5kWp, and electrical appliances such as mills, presses, freezers, fridges, a soldering station, a sewing machine, etc. The kiosks will be installed in selected sites targeted by the Climate Portfolio in the Kaolack, Fatick and Kaffrine regions. Particular emphasis will be placed on the governance and management model of the kiosks, as well as on building the capacity of women's groups to ensure the sustainability of the infrastructures built and maximize the socio-economic impact of the project. A second component of the project aims to support solar energy players in improving the management of end-of-life equipment. This will be achieved through studies, the setting up of consultation groups and technical and financial support for the implementation of large-scale actions.
MARGE has been involved in this project since the concept note phase in October 2022, by providing technical assistance to Enabel. To implement the project over a 30-month period, MARGE will provide two experts who will work closely with the Enabel team in charge of the project. In this context, a field mission has just taken place in May, during which key players were met and a number of important data and information were collected for the project's continuation. At the end of this mission, Enabel and MARGE teams held a working session to fine-tune implementation approaches and next steps. The kiosks are expected to be operational by June 2025.
