The EU-funded VABICUI project aims at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Côte d'Ivoire by recovering organic waste from agriculture and promoting more efficient, cleaner heat production approaches. As part of this program, Enabel is planning to support two factories (from two different industrial sectors) to adopt the use of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) as an alternative to fossil fuels and to disseminate widely the results of this pilot project with the idea to convince other industrial players to switch to CNSL in the future. MARGE was hired to support technically this project.
MARGE has just completed the first phase of the project, which consisted of establishing a diagnosis of several Ivorian industrial units, i.e. identifying their needs and operating methods in terms of heat production and proposing scenarios detailing the expected impact of a fuel change. The initial encouraging results of this first phase were presented to different stakeholders including representatives of key industries. A call for expression of interest whould be launched in the next few weeks to identify two industrial sites where the use of CNSL could be tested in real life and data collected. Results of this pilot project expected at the end of 2025!
