Support to the sustainable operation of 5 mini-grids and development of the SMILE Framework – Sustainable Mini-Grid Integrated Lean Excellence

Enabel has financed the construction of mini-grids in Mozambique through its RERD2 programme but their operational and financial sustainability on the long term is not yet assured. To overcome this situation, Enabel requests MARGE support to establish the SMILE Framework as a structured system of manuals and operational tools that ensures the sustainable operation of mini-grids, protects the long-term value of assets, and strengthens their attractiveness for future private sector engagement.

Distributed Renewable Energy Lending Toolkit (DRELT): Scaling Long-Term Local Currency Finance in Nigeria’s Distributed Renewable Energy Sector

InfraCredit developed a DRE Lending Toolkit. The Toolkit provides the procedures, bankability, and due diligence requirements for DRE projects to conform with InfraCredit’s credit eligibility criteria, using lessons learnt and evidence-based data from its pipeline of DRE projects. MARGE supported RebelGroup with technical and engineering aspects of the toolkit.

Within FCDO’s Transforming Energy Access programme (TEA), the Transforming Humanitarian Energy Access (THEA) programme, delivered by Mercy Corps, in partnership with GPA and Ashden, aims at delivering transformative action on clean energy access in humanitarian settings. MARGE's role is to support activities to identify, promote and scale up alternative, sustainable energy delivery models in contexts of forced displacement mainly in Ethiopia, Uganda and Somalia.

Pre-feasibility study for improving electricity supply in the Great Lakes region, Eastern and Western Congo

The aim of this pre-feasibility study was to provide KfW with detailed guidelines for identifying one or more sites among the cities of Bukavu, Goma, Uvira, Kisangani, and Matadi/Boma and to outline a proposed intervention to improve electricity supply. This study would then enable KfW to launch a more detailed feasibility study on the proposed intervention with a view to implementation.
