In consortium with ADE, the evaluation covers 10 country case studies and three thematic syntheses (geothermal, hydropower, solar and wind) for the African Development Bank. These evaluation reports should provide strategic guidance for future AfDB projects.
MARGE provides the Productive Use Specialist whose tasks focus on assessing the main barriers to productive uses of off-grid solar energy.
MARGE provides the institutional expert whose tasks include participating in the elaboration of the methodology and design of the tools, as well as the analysis of the barriers to the development of productive uses and the formulation of the recommendations and the roadmap (institutional aspects).
In consortium with Greenplug Engineering, MARGE is supporting Enabel in this study aiming at the progressive rehabilitation of the Tshopo hydroelectric power plant, which provides most of the electricity to the city of Kisangani, and of its distribution network.
The feasibility study, focused on the city of Bangui, included 2 main components: i) Household access to energy (study of needs and bottlenecks, capacity and willingness to pay...) ii) Energy consumption in public buildings (potential for installing solar systems to meet demand and energy efficiency measures).
Building on the Mercy Corps Approach to Energy Access and the Mercy Corps Office Solar Initiative, MARGE was to create global methodologies and tools to help country teams define the energy access landscape.
The objective of this project was to propose solar training models for young people without a high school diploma, which could be implemented by existing Malagasy vocational education structures. Two curricula were developed with the aim of training PV installers and maintainers.
Mercy Corps aimed to support the electrification of a refugee camp in Somali region through a hybrid solar PV mini-grid, as well as various facilities and programmes of humanitarian actors under leasing/ESCO models. MARGE provided close support to the Mercy Corps team in terms of business design and development, legal advice and technical and financial modelling.
